  במהלך המאה האחרונה מדענים בעולם חוקרים האם גזי חממה גורמים להתחממות האקלים. גזים אלה, לדוגמה פחמן דו-חמצני, מהווים רק חלק קטן מהרכב האטמוספירה, אך תפקידם חשוב לאיזון הטמפרטורה על פני כדה"א. נמצא שלעודף גזי חממה יש השפעה מעגלית שלילית משמעותית על התחממות האקלים בכדור הארץ: ההתחממות עקב המצאות גזי החממה באטמוספרה גורמת לתופעות המשחררות גזי חממה נוספים וכך אנו עדים למעגל שלילי המזין את עצמו. חלק מקרינת השמש שמגיעה אל כדור הארץ נספגת בביוספרה, שהיא מערכת אקולוגית עולמית המורכבת מאורגניזמים חיים ומהגורמים ה'לא חיים', למשל מים, אוויר, אדמה וכו' . קרינה זו מומרת לאנרגיית חום ונפלטת בחזרה אל החלל דרך האטמוספרה. גזי החממה המצטברים באטמוספרה יוצרים "אפקט חממה" – בעצם לכידת חלק מהחום בתוך האטמוספרה, לפני שהוא בורח לחלל. חלק מהגזים הללו נשארים באטמוספרה לאורך שנים והמשמעות היא שנרגיש את השפעתם עוד זמן רב. מאז ומעולם בני האדם שינו את סביבתם, בין אם ע"י שריפות, העברת מינים פולשים ממקום למקום, השפעה על הרכב הצומח (למשל בתקופת המהפכה החקלאית) ועוד. אולם במהלך מא...

  🌏🌏🌏 The United Nations Scientific Report (IPCC) has warned very recently that the world is not ready for the effects of impending climate change. Green roofs are not a new phenomenon - The Hanging Gardens of Babylon are probably the first documented green roofs, and in later periods they appeared in traditional construction in northern Europe. The modern use began in the early twentieth century in Germany and was designed to curb the influence of runoff water - rainwater that does not seep into the ground and which the municipal drainage systems fail to absorb, a phenomenon that creates flooding and causes damage in the city.
